COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS FOR ONLINE COURSES

Internet Specifications:
A broadband connection is ideal--a dial up connection may not be sufficient.
 
Hardware Specifications:

PC or Laptop, Web Cam, Microphone, Speakers,
 
Software Specifications:
- Windows XP, vista, windows 7 or a Mac is recommended
- Internet Explorer
- Word processor (Microsoft WORD or compatible)*
- PowerPoint reader*  **
- Adobe Reader (for some classes) **
- Adobe Flash player **
- Skype account **
- Java **

* Microsoft Office 2010 is available at a greatly reduced cost for students with an email address ending in “.edu”.  To locate this offer go to www.microsoft.com/student , and click the “discount” link.  Currently, the cost is $79.95 for the package that includes Word 2010, Excel 2010, PowerPoint 2010,  Outlook 2010, Access 2010, Publisher 2010, and more.   You will need many of these programs to complete various classes in the online program.  If you have a Microsoft Word compatible word processor but do not have PowerPoint, a free version of a PowerPoint viewer is available at www.microsoft.com/downloads.  You will need at least a PowerPoint viewer to see the lesson materials in most of your online classes.

**These program are available as free downloads.  You can search your browser for these programs and download them, if your computer is not already equipped with them.  Most of these programs will include automatic updates.
Skype will be used to communicate with your instructor and other staff members at CBC.
