Friday and Saturday saw a full slate of activities as former students returned to the campus for Homecoming. After a chilly tailgating party Friday afternoon, sponsored by the CBC Alumni Association, fans filled the A. R. Reddin Fieldhouse where they enjoyed double wins by the Lady Mustangs and Mustangs basketball teams. Saturday began with tours of the new David T. Watkins Academic Building. Activities also included reunions of classes of ’62 – ’72 and a young alumni reunion for students from ’07-’12.
The annual Alumni and Friends Luncheon included recognition of Distinguished Alumnus Kenneth Brown. Bro. Brown reminisced about his 40 years as CBC professor of History. Known as a storyteller, Bro. Brown did not disappoint those who packed the Dining Hall as he recounted many of his most memorable moments at CBC. Maria Edwards received the Young Alumnus Award. The Mustangs, men and women, took to the court again Saturday afternoon against Central Christian College. Between the games, Brandi Box was crowned 2013 CBC Homecoming Queen.
A highlight of this past weekend’s Homecoming activities was the induction of the first class into the Half-Century Club. Twenty-one graduates from the years 1952-1962 were inducted in a special ceremony Saturday morning in the Ronald V. Mitchell Lecture Hall. Family and friends watched as each inductee was presented a medallion bearing the official Central Baptist College seal. Norman Crass, class of 61, followed the induction with comments about his time at CBC, both as a student and employee. Kenneth Brown, accompanied by his wife Marie, was recognized as an honorary member of the Half-Century Club. Though Bro. Brown was the very first student to enroll at CBC, he didn’t graduate because the college did not offer the degree he needed at the time. He transferred to another institution to complete his degree and then returned to CBC where he taught History for forty years.
