CBC Means the World to Me

My name is Zach Ferrell from Sulphur Springs, Texas. I am pursuing Bible and Worship Arts degrees, and I will graduate this Spring, 2020. This is why CBC means the world to me.

My CBC Student Story

My CBC student story began when was nine years old, the year I was saved.  I was called to ministry when I was twelve, but by the age of thirteen, I had built up some idols (things that come in between me and God) in my life. Because of these idols, I lived in sin for two years.  Even though two years doesn’t sound like a long time, they felt like a lifetime to me because they were the most miserable and painful years of my life.

When I was fifteen, God brought me to the end of myself. He brought me back to Himself. I’ve never been the same, and I never want to be. Since that day, God has been growing me and teaching me what it means to love Him. My view on everything has changed and I can truly say that Jesus is my Lord.

How I Found This Wonderful Place

What does all this have to do with me coming to Central Baptist College?  Everything!  If it weren’t for God’s grace, I would not have become a Christian. If it weren’t for His mercy, I would not have turned back to Him. Then, if it weren’t for Him I would not have been called to ministry, and would not have found this wonderful place, Central Baptist College.

God Was Leading Me

While I was praying about what college to go to, CBC sent me a letter in the mail. I don’t know how they found my address all the way down here in Texas, but I began praying about the college. My parents and I toured the campus, and I knew it was where God was calling me. I didn’t tour any other college, and I didn’t have to. God was leading me. That’s all I needed to know.

My Favorite Thing About CBC

I moved to campus in the Fall of 2016. It didn’t take me long to get in the swing of things.  Because of M.U.D. week, Mustangs Under Development, I made friends very quickly. Most of those people are still close friends today. Even though I love my peers, my favorite thing about CBC are the professors I’ve studied under. Each one has been down to earth and available for me to talk to at any time.

For example, Dr. Joel Slayton will sit down and explain anything that I have questions about. He is someone that I frequently talk to anytime I am uncertain about biblical matters. Dr. Tim Brewer is another professor that has been there to pray for me whenever I needed it the most.

God is Using Them to Equip Me for Ministry

These are the kinds of teachers that CBC hires, and they’re the kind of teachers that college students need. Learning from these professors has taught me more than just material. They have led me by example. They don’t just teach lessons. They’re passionate about showing us Christ. God is using them to equip me for ministry, not only for current ministry, but also for future ministry. I can see the way they handle situations that come up in ministry, and I can follow their example.

This is What Godly Teaching Really Looks Like

Another thing that these professors do is encourage me to spend personal time with God.  For example, Dr. Jameson often requires us to keep S.O.A.P. (Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer) journals for classes because he doesn’t want us to just get by, he wants God’s Word to change our lives. This is what Godly teaching really looks like.

CBC Means the World to Me

Central Baptist College means the world to me, from the classes and professors to the Godly morals that it upholds. Jesus is, and I pray always will be, the center of all things on campus. Here is the mission statement of the college, “Central Baptist College is committed to transforming lives through education that integrates Christian faith and academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.”  This mission is taken very seriously.

These are more than just words to the faculty and staff of this college. This is the goal of their teaching and reason why they do what they do. Though the world may be falling, CBC seeks to glorify our one true King and Maker, Jesus Christ!
