Introduction to Mass Media
Provides a comprehensive understanding of the mass media and its role in society, past and present. Includes an overview of the forms, history, structure, functions and effects of the press and its future.

Basic Photography
Beginning course in theory and applied aspects of photojournalism. Includes study of cameras and basic techniques, including the use of Photoshop. Students must provide a single-lens reflex (SLR) camera with removable lens. Prerequisite: JOU 1300 with a grade of C or higher.

Fundamentals of Multimedia
Journalism A study and practice of editing software for photos and video, and creating graphic images in print and web media. Students learn the basics of crossplatform, multimedia storytelling. Prerequisite: JOU 1300 with a grade of C or higher.

Convergence Reporting
The reporting of news through print, broadcast and online media with an emphasis on news storytelling. Prerequisite: JOU 1300 with a grade of C or higher.

Understanding how today’s churches are influenced by the media at large and how social media and how social media, video and blogs are becoming an accepted way for modern churches to reach the church body and community. Prerequisite: JOU 1300 with a C of higher or Department Chair Approval.
