
Natural Sciences & Mathematics
Trained professionals in biomedical and health care fields are in high demand. The Natural Sciences & Mathematics Department seeks to prepare students for professional programs of study related to health care and/or research and careers that require skills in the sciences and mathematics. The department offers degrees that will prepare students for post-baccalaureate programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant and optometry as well as for training in fields such as nursing, dental hygiene, medical laboratory science, respiratory therapy, radiologic imaging science, dietetics, speech pathology and many others. Students will also be prepared to enter master’s and Ph.D. programs in the sciences.

The Natural Science & Mathematics Department operates in the Judy Gabbard Science Center which is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory and teaching technologies including two chemistry labs, three biology labs, and two research labs. Two Bachelor of Science degree programs are offered: Biology and Health Sciences. A Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree is also offered to students wishing to work in health care administration. An Associate of Arts with Science Emphasis is also available for students entering specialized degree or certification programs including nursing, dental hygiene, medical laboratory science and many others. Research opportunities are available to all students in the Natural Sciences & Mathematics Department.

Dr. Katherine Gasaway

Dr. Gasaway teaches College Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Physiological Chemistry I and II, and Biochemistry at Central Baptist College. She achieved her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Science from Troy University in Troy, AL and her PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Auburn University in Auburn, AL. In her free time, Dr. Gasaway enjoys reading and is learning how to embroider. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Josh, and her two cats, Mendeleev and Carl.

Amber Strain

Ms. Strain teaches Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Elementary Statistics, Trigonometry, Business Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics at Central Baptist College. She was born in Arkansas but grew up in Minnesota. After returning to Arkansas, she attended Abundant Life School in Sherwood before moving on to earn her B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Economics with specialization in International Trade and her M.A. in Mathematics Education from the University of Central Arkansas. She began teaching at CBC in the Fall of 2017, and she currently lives in Conway. In her free time, Ms. Strain enjoys going to theme parks and spending time with her nieces and nephews and her yorkie.
