 Education Faculty – Job Description
Job Summary:

Faculty at Central Baptist College support the College’s mission of transforming lives through education that integrates Christian faith and academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment. This involves quality teaching (as defined in the employee handbook), advising, and communication. Verification of effectiveness will be conducted in the format of student evaluations, peer reviews, course documents and a faculty evaluation conducted by the chair of the department. In addition, faculty provide service to the college and engage in research, scholarship, and professional development activities. During the 9-month contract of employment, faculty members are expected to be available to assist and work with students and respond to departmental and college needs. The teaching load for full-time faculty during the academic year is 15 undergraduate semester hours per semester.

Candidates must also support the Christian identity of the College and demonstrate mature faith, Christian lifestyle, and a strong belief in Baptist doctrine.

Qualifications:

To be credentialed to teach undergraduate courses at Central Baptist College, faculty should (1) possess a master’s or doctorate degree regardless of how many graduate hours they have earned and (2) have completed an appropriate amount of graduate coursework in the discipline they will teach. In addition, they must hold a valid teaching license. For faculty members whose graduate degree is not in their teaching field, they must have earned at least 18 semester hours of credit in the teaching field for it to be considered adequate.

Duties:

  1. Teaching and Student Engagement
    1. Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course syllabi and a schedule of classes.
    2. Engage in development of new and creative instructional materials, including new courses and programs of studies.
    3. Assist in keeping the curriculum of the program(s) current.
    4. Advise students and ensure the successful completion of their degree program.
    5. Post and hold office hours in a physical format.
    6. Assist with the departmental assessment efforts and plan.
    7. Assist with student recruitment, particularly when low student enrollment is an issue in the program.
  2. Research/Scholarship/Professional Development
    1. Maintain a current knowledge of advances and innovations in the academic discipline.
    2. Engage in scholarly activity related to the discipline, e.g., presentation of papers, serving on panels, publication of articles and books, grant writing, exhibits, participation in seminars, professional practice or consulting, book reviewing and abstracting.
  3. Service

      1. Assist with committee work and administrative tasks related to the faculty member’s Department.
      2. Assist with committee work and tasks related to the College.

Reporting:

Individual faculty members report to and are responsible to their Department Chair, Division Chair, Vice- President for Academic Affairs, and the College President in ascending order.

Skills Required:

Communication with students, staff and colleagues.
Read academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
Technology skills in LMS, instructional strategies, use of equipment, etc.
Physical abilities to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
Travel to conferences or meetings or to observe student interns.

Journalism and Multimedia Adjunct

Central Baptist College’s Department of Communication is currently seeking adjunct faculty to teach courses in Journalism and Multimedia for the Fall 2019 semester.

Job description

Teaching responsibilities for one or more of the following courses:
Multimedia Production, Social Media in Communication, Basic Photography, Photojournalism 1, Principles of Public Relations, and Integrated Media. Descriptions are in the college’s online course catalog.

Director of Physical Plant

Central Baptist College is accepting applications for Director of Physical Plant. This position involves planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and controlling all Physical Plant functions. It is responsible for all physical facilities, rental properties, physical plant budgets, preventative maintenance, repairs, housekeeping, equipment and grounds.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the overall operations of Physical Plant Department, including the performance of maintenance, rental property, grounds, HVAC systems, software controls and custodial tasks.
  • Supervises building, grounds, maintenance, housekeeping and custodial personnel, tradesmen, contractors and/or their employees hired for specific work, and such other personnel as may be assigned or designated.
  • Evaluates and ensures the efficient operation of the department, controlling operation expenses at a minimum level which is consistent with sound maintenance practices.
  • Provides thorough training for physical plant employees.
  • Identifies and implements personal development and technical training opportunities for Physical Plant Staff.
  • Discusses major project assignments to supervisory staff to determine building and maintenance priorities.
  • Repairs and maintains all facilities, 32 rental properties, buildings and grounds.
  • Ensures proper upkeep of facilities to include safety, heating, air, ventilation, lighting, cleanliness, sanitation, general appearance of buildings and grounds, and emergency situations affecting the campus.
  • Reviews present Preventative Maintenance program and updates as needed.
  • Ensures parking facilities are maintained in good condition with adequate lightning and safety features.
  • Supervises in-house remodeling and renovation projects of facilities.
  • Coordinates work orders to ensure the timely and adequate accomplishment of projects.
  • Maximizes use of work order system.
  • Coordinates purchase of necessary supplies, equipment and services from appropriate sources and maintains proper inventory control over storage, maintenance and consumable supplies.
  • Prepares the annual budget for physical facilities in coordination with the Vice President for Finance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of physical plant activities.
  • Ability to work with management systems and variety of skilled/unskilled, professional, administrative, and industry personnel.
  • Basic knowledge of office administration, plant management, reporting, budgeting and control, and business operations. Knowledge of terms, nature of related trades, blueprints, buildings, grounds, equipment, housekeeping, construction, repair, maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, fire, safety management, BOCA & OSHA codes, and related matters in higher education.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Willing to seek training.
  • Willing to be accessible to ensure proper management and operation of plant activities.

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in Business, Facilities Operations, Project Management or a related field
  • Five (5) years of supervisory/management experience in the construction, equipment, maintenance and repair, safety or related areas.
  • Any combination of education, training, or experience which meets College needs.
