Central Baptist College (CBC) hosted its sixth annual Scholarship Gala on February 28. The black-tie optional event featured keynote speaker, Houston Nutt, and was held at Antioch Baptist Church.

The theme of the event was “Legacy of Faith,” and the program focused on the mission and ministry of Central Baptist College which is “the integration of Christian faith and academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.”

The emcee for the night was JR Runyon, a local radio personality and market manager for East Arkansas Broadcasters Conway and disc jockey for JACK 92.7 FM. The opening prayer was offered by Dr. Jeremy Langley, CBC’s Executive Vice President, and under the direction of Chef Billie Rodriguez, CBC Dining Services served a delicious meal.

Houston Nutt shared his personal story of growing up and working towards playing professional football before injuries changed his plans. Soon he was offered a position working with college freshmen and felt drawn to the role. “I knew I was meant to be a difference maker,” he said. “There are a lot of difference makers here tonight.” Many laughs were shared as he offered inspiration and encouragement to the attendees, reminding them of the difference their contributions make.

The Central Baptist College Fine Arts Department provided the entertainment. The CBC Band, under the direction of Donna Bradley, performed Great Is Thy Faithfulness by Charles Booker, and Choose Joy by Randall Standridge. The CBC Chamber Choir, under the direction of Jim Turner, sang Ephesians Samba by Craig Curry and Legacy of Faith by Jim Turner and the CBC Theory 4 Class of 1979.

At the event, Central Baptist College President Terry Kimbrow announced that $772,650 had been raised through event sponsorships and private donations and that all proceeds would benefit student scholarships. Kimbrow acknowledged 58 event sponsors and many additional individuals and businesses who made contributions towards the total.

"I am beyond grateful for the generosity of so many,” said Kimbrow. “The Central Baptist College Board of Trustees - local businesses, not only in Conway but across the state of Arkansas - and other individuals who are such faithful supporters of Central Baptist College all came together to make this an unforgettable night for the support of Christian higher education."

Lead Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church Jason Aultman offered the closing prayer.
