Mitchell Chosen to Guide CBC Volleyball
June 15, 2018
Central Baptist College athletic director Lyle Middleton announced another coaching change this morning. Sara Mitchell will take over for Shatel Gaines, who resigned on April 30. "From starting out on my schools developmental team to over ten years later earning a scholarship to compete in college, I believe my time as a player has groomed me for this position, said Coach Mitchell. I have had numerous coaches and mentors over the years that have helped shape my own coaching philosophy and strategies." Mitchell, who becomes the sixth coach in the NAIA era, has extensive coaching experience at the club level, having coached Conway Juniors for the past two years and being the director of coaches since May of 2017 and the Beach Volleyball Director since April. She also coached Fatchmo Volley from November 2011-August of 2015. Her collegiate coaching experience dates back to the 2013-14 season when she served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Central Arkansas. She will inherit a team that went 11-20 last season, the most wins since 2011, with one all-conference selection (Lenee Gibson). Volleyball season begins for CBC on August 21 when they travel to Bartlesville, Okla., for a match with the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan. Mitchell graduated in December 2017 from UCA with a bachelors degree in exercise science and a minor in family and consumer science. She lives in Conway.
