Dr. Virgil V. Porter Jr.

Bible Department Chair

My wife, Sheila and I have been married for 47 years. We have two sons, Trey and Matthew (Nikkina) and two granddaughters, Hailey and Elleigh.

I enjoy yard work and gardening. I have been in the ministry over 50 years, have pastored six churches in Arkansas and Texas, served one church as interim pastor, and participated in two short-term mission trips to Australia and Ghana West Africa. I have also served as an officer and on committees in the BMA on local, state, and national levels and have served as an evangelist and Bible conference speaker. I have been published in Bibliotheca Sacra, The Sermon on the Mount in the Book of James, Part 1 and 2 (2005). I have also written devotionals and Sunday School lessons for Baptist Publishing House and DiscipleGuide. I graduated from Central Baptist College in 1977 and returned to CBC to teach in the Bible Department in 2006 where I have served as an instructor, Assistant Professor and now Associate Professor and Chair of the Bible Department. I received the CBC Horizon Academic Excellence Award (2008) and the CBC Outstanding Faculty Award (2016) and have served on the CBC Chapel Planning Committee and the Judicial Affairs Committee. I am a member of the Evangelical Theological Society.
