Darrell Brown is a 2007 Bible major graduate, who has done great things since graduating from CBC. Darrell lives at Lake Norvell, near west Little Rock, Arkansas, with his wife.
The Place For Me
Darrell didn’t know what he wanted to do after high school. He enrolled in college but quit because he got an internship with a U.S. Senator. However, Brown had been called to ministry at 16 and been licensed at his home church in Sherwood, Arkansas.
“My friend, Larry Williams, told me about the PACE program at CBC,” said Brown. “I decided to take a tour and Cory Calhoun led me on that tour and it felt like the place for me.”
The CBC Experience
When asked about his best CBC experience, Brown replied: “We had a group of non-traditional students in the Bible program and we built a camaraderie. The relationships and fellowship that we had with each other was unbelievable.
Life After CBC
For the past eight years, Brown has worked for the Arkansas State government, from being an ambassador for the state to his most recent job in the land commissioner’s office.
Change of Plans
This month, Brown made a big change. “I grew up in church and grew up in a Christian household. I felt I was a good Christian. I found out when I got to CBC that I didn’t know as much as I thought. I got a passion for the Word of God. That changed my life. I love the Word of God and it’s my source of encouragement and inspiration every day.”
“I have been both a children’s minister and a youth minister and I did supply preaching in Lonoke, AR. Even though I had left the ministry, I have recently felt God calling me into Christian Counseling.” Brown is currently serving as a supply preacher for the Central Baptist Association in Saline and Garland counties.
I Recommend CBC
When asked about his recommendation to incoming college students, Brown said “I recommend CBC to anyone. I have all positive memories and I talk about what CBC did for me all the time. We prayed before every class and my support system was awesome, including Dr. Joel Slayton, who is a huge influence in my life and a mentor of mine.”
A Blessed Life
Brown has been honored several times for his career in government. He was recognized as the 2012 Sherwood Rotary Club’s Citizen of the Year, the 2013 Sherwood Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year, the Sherwood Voice/North Little Rock Times Readers’ Choice Community Leader of the Year from 2014-16. He was also appointed to Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s Arkansas Capitol Zoning Commission as well as being commissioned an ‘Arkansas Traveler’ by Gov. Hutchinson in 2017 and earned the title of ‘Honorary Texan’ by Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, earlier this year.
The Next Chapter
Darrell will soon be starting his master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from John Brown University’s Little Rock campus.
